A Dad And A Daughters View Of Life

Perhaps I have always been  a dreamer. I have always been on the look out for every opportunity that was of interest to me, and experiencing what I can within the scope of my personal values.  My father once asked me, "Why do you study, travel and work so much?" Basically he did not have anything against these things, but it was the magnitude in which I pursued these activities.   He thought it strange that I did not pursue the "safe and secure jobs" and buy the house that I would live in for thirty years.

I admired my father.  He was a responsible man, a loyal veteran, and a man who stayed in his job for more than thirty years.  He retired and then worked some more. As it is true of most young people, I am the one that took the opposite road. I told my dad I wanted to experience life fully.  He did not say much, just nodded his head, with a slight smile, in the way he always did when he did not necessarily fully agree, but was going to respect the path that I chose.

Needless to say, as  I continued my journey of "Experiencing Life",  I discovered many things.  For one thing life is a phenomenon within itself.  I noticed that  life sometimes has a script of its own. I also  discovered that many of our pursuits sometimes lead you to similar experiences.  Life has a way of bringing you back, full circle.

There were things that I looked for in different places, people, and careers. I learned that the elements that I was seeking, were not in those pursuits, but within me.  In other words, like the old adage: "it was in my own backyard."  Perhaps that was what my father saw in me.  Although ambition is good, there was a missing element, and he wanted me to look within myself and get in touch with what I felt was missing.

Moms Don't Have To Choose

Many people separate motherhood and vocational interest as two separate entities, but I believe being a mother is not separate from your interest.   I do not see motherhood and my career as separate; I see career as just something that I do as a mother.   There are women who never have children, but that does not make them less of a woman.  If you are a mother who has career interest besides your children, it does not make you less of a mother.  Also, if you are a mother who decides that majority of your interest is not to work outside the home, that does not make you more of a mother either.

Perhaps the conflicting views people have on motherhood cause one to feel that they must choose. Moms do not have to choose. Motherhood is a state of being.  We all have gifts and talents and a purpose.  Perhaps one of the first steps in transcending as a mom is to be confident in who you are.

Spring is the New Year

Spring is already in the air!  Yes I absolutely love Spring. Flowers are blossoming, birds are singing.  Spring is a welcome change after the cold weather and spending days in the dark. It marks a new start. To me Spring is a New Year.  When the clocks spring forward it gives many an opportunity to enjoy longer days.  Spring is neither hot or cold.  ( Speaking for Southern California)     This is a wonderful time to speed up those goals that were made in January, as you gear up toward the finish  line.

Spring is a beginning as it physically manifest itself as a new day.  Each day we wake up is a chance to leave yesterday behind and go forward.  Let spring be a reminder that it is a new day, and life is blossoming and you are alive, so spring forward!

Time

How rapidly time seems to move. Time an entity that seems limited, but yet it is eternal.  Every month there is a holiday or an event that is celebrated that bring to our mind a sense of time.
December brings Christmas and cheer and this month are thoughts of red hearts and love.
On a personal level we may have events that have occurred that have a completely different memory or anticipation than a national holiday.  To some a month may be a birthday or an anniversary of some sort. However you measure time,

we must almost remember that the invisibility of its essence is beyond are control. Therefore it would be wise to utilize our time in a way that is most meaningful.

Finding answers in 2017

The New Year is here according to our calendar.  People are wishing people the best, and being thankful for being here another year. Some people are sad because they will miss the loved ones that are no longer here on earth.  Some people feel that for some reason they are the blessed ones, the lucky ones, whew she made it, we missed the grim reaper or we have another chance to make it.  With all these wishes, greetings, hopes and prayers, do we really know what  it is to" make it"  or to have succeeded or to live?

Just because you are here does not mean you really are present.  Now that you are present what is the definition of success?  Just because others are not here does not mean that they have not transcended or any less happy than those that remain.

Are we just sheep that are following the crowd?  Is our life the expectations of others, or the expectation of self?   With that being said  are those expectations truly satisfying?  I would say that a good thing to do today is search ourselves for the true answers.

What beats do you hear?

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.  Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away"

                                         Henry David Thoreau

The world is full of different events.  Many people are celebrating Thanksgiving with friends and family.  Yet there are some that are protesting this day  as a day of mourning of people who were victimized. Yet there are others who are living as though this day is just another day of  many days.

Wherever you are in your mental and spiritual state, do know that today is , and yesterday was. However, whether in the past or present  it is significant.  It is also good to recognize and respect that  others may not share the same values. More importantly it is good to examine your belief systems and determine if your actions follow those beliefs.

Understanding true beauty

People need to understand the beauty of the soul, for without there is no true beauty..." (B.L. Aki, 2016).

I admire the amazing natural transitions of October.   The leaves on the trees turn different colors as the trees  begin to hibernate for new growth in the future.  In a world that is moved and swayed by Hollywood, believing everything that glitters to be gold, it is easy to fall in the trap that whatever is pleasing to the eye is perfect. In nature, I can not help to think that it is the inward process that brings forth such beauty.
I enjoy the awesomeness of visual beauty like most people.  Yet, let’s not forget love, kindness, truth and pureness of heart cultivates beauty that resonates to the soul.
